Life with Alzheimer’s: Reimagined

Services

BrainLove provides a comprehensive initial evaluation to identify the cause(s) of cognitive decline. Dr. Cabral may order labs, imaging, and special tests, such as cerebrospinal fluid testing, and/or genetic testing.

We offer mental health and psychiatric care for full-time care partners* including holistic counseling, medications, and, if appropriate, referrals to outside services and specialists. Care partners can be  BrainLove patients individually and gain personalized treatment, care, and support!

*Care partner eligibility for these services based on certain criteria.

Possibly the most challenging aspects of Alzheimer’s and related diseases are the impacts on identity, sense of self, roles, and relationships. BrainLove guides patients, families, and communities through these diagnoses and creates space for growth and transformation.  We provide opportunities to come together to say the unsayable and feel the unfeelable. Metabolizing the struggles together gives rise to new strength.

BrainLove provides a comprehensive safety assessment (e.g. medication management, driving, financial management), recommendations for adaptations to support independence, and counseling for future needs.

At the heart of positive brain aging and cognitive resilience is a healthy lifestyle that includes physical activity, good nutrition, social connection, stress reduction, cognitive stimulation, and quality sleep. In addition, a growing body of research shows that intensive management of cardiovascular health (e.g. blood pressure, cholesterol levels, etc..) is beneficial. BrainLove assesses these areas and gives personalized recommendations based on the patient’s and family’s unique goals and values. We collaborate with your healthcare team to help you stay on track.

BrainLove may prescribe medications for the cognitive, mood, and behavioral symptoms of Alzheimer’s and related diseases as well as for the care partner’s mental health.  We also evaluate your prescription and over-the-counter medications and supplements and recommend how to best support healthy brain aging.

Those with early symptomatic Alzheimer’s disease (mild cognitive impairment or mild dementia) may be eligible for anti-amyloid monoclonal antibody treatments (e.g. lecanemab, donanemab). If appropriate, Dr. Cabral will discuss these treatment options with you and can safely prescribe and monitor their effects.

BrainLove does not currently have a clinical trial program within the practice but will refer you to outside clinical research opportunities that may be a good fit. Options may include medication trials, lifestyle interventions, observational studies, and/or brain donation programs.
